To optimize the therapeutic approach in inflammatory and immunosuppressive states, it is proposed to complement conventional therapy with antivirals and corticosteroids/ginseng with the administration of supplements that mitigate oxidative stress and replenish precursors depleted during inflammation or by malabsorption phenomena ( Figure 2 )
Future research should aim for standardized methodologies, including similar study designs, antioxidant dosages, and administration routes, to facilitate better comparison and synthesis of results and it is required to conduct larger, well-designed randomized controlled trials to provide more robust and generalizable evidence on the efficacy of antioxidants in treating CAP
